Tamanu Oil

Writer: AhuvaAhuva

Tamanu oil? You may have never heard of this one but it is one of the foundational ingredients in many of our products. We chose this oil because it is a botanical ingredient that really knows how to show lurveee to both skin and hair!

Tamanu oil originates in Polynesia and throughout Asia. Our oil in particular is sourced from Vietnam, Tahiti and Madagascar. The oil comes from the Laurelwood (Calophyllum inophyllum) tree and is extracted from the nuts using the cold pressing method. It is thick in texture and dark green in appearance. The entire tree has been used in one way or another for topical use and is a natural preservative.

Random Fun Fact

The name of the genus Calophyllum means "ʺbeautiful leaf"ʺ, from the Greek kalos (beautiful) and phullon (leaf).

3 Main Benefits of Tamanu:

  1. Studies have shown that this oil helps with Acne and Eczema. It is also said to help with psoriasis, rosacea, sun burn, keloids and other wounds

  2. Tamanu oil has natural anti inflammatory and antibiotic compounds and agents that help with hair growth, scalp health and hair restoration.

  3. The oil has often been compared to the more famous beauty product called "Rosehip oil" because research has found very little differences in the two oils. Both are very moisturizing and can help treat acne scars or stretch marks.

Lastly I would like to share this personal testimony with you. A few weeks ago I was frying some food and burnt myself with some real hot oil. I ran it under cold, as our mothers taught many of us and as usual it started to sting and hurt. I then went on to apply some pure Tamanu oil (which will also be available in our store) and the next day it was completely healed. No stinging, scaring or blistering.

It works.
